This narrow, round-bottomed instrument was not as stable as I would want. In this case, instead of adhesive-backed felt, I would use adhesive-backed sponge rubber. When doing things like this, take care that there is no PVC or sulphur in the rubber, otherwise, the instrument finish could be damaged.
Basically, polyurethane finish is a hard plastic and tolerant of many things; nitrocellulose is not nearly as forgiving. Know your instrument's finish!
