There were many Dr.1s in combat.  The rotary engines used a lot of lubricant.  This was castor oil in some places, but in Germany they relied on artificial oils. Just as would be the case later in WWII, the shortage of lubricants would haunt the German war machine & their equipment would suffer because of it.
